Beaufort West Property for Sale

Beaufort West is situated on the N1 from Johannesburg to Cape Town and through Meiringspoort to George and Mossel Bay 2˝ hours' drive. The town was founded in 1880 at the request of Lord Charles Somerset. To the north of town lie the majestic Nuweveld mountains.

Thousands of tourists visit the town to look at the interesting mixture of architecture and worthwhile sightseeing found in and around town.

Heart transplant pioneer Professor Chris Barnard, the town’s most famous son, is honoured in the museum which houses a display of awards presented to him as well as a replica of the original heart transplant theatre. No wonder Beaufort West, for this reason and more, is called “The Heart Of The Karoo.”

On the outskirts of town lies the 75 000ha Karoo National Park, home of the quagga and other game and bird species.

Beaufort West is an eco-tourist’s delight. Many farms offer holidays and hunting. Accommodation venues in town range from luxury three star accommodation to traditional country hotels, self catering establishments and budget rooms.

During the war several blockhouses were constructed at Beaufort West. Only one remains today. It has been restored and visitors can view the inside of the blockhouse. The key to the blockhouse can be obtained from the Beaufort West Museum in Donkin St between Church and Voortrekker Streets.

This town in the Great Karoo is an exclusive, quick-developing town due to coming mining activities and regional development, mall etc.
